Have you downloaded the Town App? A lot of our information is shared on the Town website and Facebook page, but sometimes that information gets lost in all the noise. The App is a quick way to keep up with Town calendars, events, and alerts.
And for our Senior Center members - there's now a separate calendar just for Senior Center activities!

What a talented Town we have!! The State Fire Marshall holds a Fire Safety Poster Contest every year open to all K-12th graders in Tennessee. Last year's theme was "Cooking Safety Starts With You!" and schools across the State entered over 300 student posters for consideration.
Arlington was fortunate to have FIVE 1st place winners this year: 3 from Arlington Middle and 2 from Arlington High. AFD congratulates all the State winners, but sends an extra special congratulations to the winners from our schools (and to their teachers that encouraged, directed, and entered their artwork).
Our local Arlington winners were recognized at an award luncheon in Nashville last week with State Fire Marshal Greg Farley; two were able to attend. They will be recognized again during during the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting this month.

Spring Cleaning Reminder! As you're sprucing up your homes and decluttering for the season, we know you'll have things to throw away. Here are some quick tips to ensure we keep your trash and recycle collection running smooth:
1. Sort it, but don't bag it! After you separate your recyclables, just toss them in the bin and never bag them. This helps ensure they gets properly processed.
2. Extra trash, no problem! You're allowed up to 3 extra bags outside of your trash bin. Just be sure they are securely bagged and place beside your bin on collection day.
3. Too heavy, call ahead! Weekly service includes bulky items, but items over 35 pounds fall outside standard service. Call ahead to Waste Pro at (901) 236-0660 and they'll help schedule a pick up.
4. Give a little space! Always place heavy or bulky items away from other things like mailboxes, utility boxes, or light poles to allow the claw truck to access them. Look up too, as items directly under power lines can be tricky.
As always, call us if you need us! While WastePro is the Town's contracted trash servicer, you can always call Public Works (7am-3:30pm) if there is a question, or Town Hall (until 5pm M-Th, 4pm Fri) .

REMINDER: The AFD will be conducting annual Fire Hydrant inspections and flushing beginning TOMORROW (April 15) through June 21st. Most hydrants will be flushed between the hours of 9 AM and 4 PM.
Items to note during hydrant flushing:
- You may notice a decrease in water pressure while hydrants are flushed nearby.
- Water is safe to use during this period; however, water discoloration may occur.
- Discoloration can be alleviated by running your cold water for several minutes.
* We advise you to refrain from washing laundry while discoloration is present.
If you experience a continued reduction in flow, we recommend you clean the screen at the tip of your faucet as mineral deposits may have accumulated during the flushing period.
