You’ve undoubtedly noticed an odor around Town, but don’t blame the dog! A project to update our Wastewater Treatment Plant is underway, which requires us to take half the system offline. The first half should be completed by Memorial Day, and the new improvements should result in less odor while the second half is upgraded. Watch the Town website for more details about the project. We appreciate your patience while we improve!

REMINDER: The AFD is conducting annual Fire Hydrant inspections and flushing. It will continue through June 21st. Most hydrants will be flushed between the hours of 9 AM and 4 PM. Items to note during hydrant flushing: - You may notice a decrease in water pressure while hydrants are flushed nearby. - Water is safe to use during this period; however, water discoloration may occur. - Discoloration can be alleviated by running your cold water for several minutes. * We advise you to refrain from washing laundry while discoloration is present. If you experience a continued reduction in flow, we recommend you clean the screen at the tip of your faucet as mineral deposits may have accumulated during the flushing period.

UPDATE #2 (5/2/24)- The Town received notice that laboratory personnel from MLGW collected samples today and confirmed pH and chlorine residuals in our water is within Safe Drinking Water Standards. UPDATE (5/2/24)- Yesterday, a water line was cut at the Chester Street Bridge repair. MLG&W had to reroute the water to go a different way to increase the water pressure and feed the area that was out of water due to the break. The residents initially had some brown water and some are now experiencing white, milky water. Town staff pressed for reassurance the water was safe and MLG&W has stressed this white milky water is due to having air in the line because it has to travel so far due to the reroute. Work to repair the broken line will be completed as quickly as possible. Please follow the Town FB page or use the free Town of Arlington app for real- time updates on this going forward.

boken water main alert
UPDATE...MLGW crews are in the process of closing water valves to isolate where the water main is damaged. When these valves are closed, water pressure should stabilize to normal pressure. There was an initial loss of pressure in the system when the water main break occurred, causing an excessive flow and loss of pressure. MLGW water construction is currently developing a plan to repair the water main, which may take a few days. WATER MAIN BREAK - Construction crews hit a water main on Chester this morning. MLGW's emergency crew was alerted and is sending someone out to cut it off. As a result, all of Pinkley, all of Chester south of 40 and much of the east side of Town is experiencing low pressure until a repair is completed. We will share any follow-up information as we are made aware.

What a talented Town we have!! The State Fire Marshall holds a Fire Safety Poster Contest every year open to all K-12th graders in Tennessee. Last year's theme was "Cooking Safety Starts With You!" and schools across the State entered over 300 student posters for consideration. Arlington was fortunate to have FIVE 1st place winners this year: 3 from Arlington Middle and 2 from Arlington High. AFD congratulates all the State winners, but sends an extra special congratulations to the winners from our schools (and to their teachers that encouraged, directed, and entered their artwork). Our local Arlington winners were recognized at an award luncheon in Nashville last week with State Fire Marshal Greg Farley; two were able to attend. They will be recognized again during during the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting this month.
