🚧 Road Work Alert: Highway 70 Paving Project 🚧
Starting Monday, April 28, TDOT contractors will begin a paving project on Highway 70 through Arlington—a key connector in our community. Please be prepared for traffic impacts over the coming weeks.
✅ This will be a multi-phase project, including:
• Patching and milling of the existing roadway
• New pavement installation
• Fresh road markings and updated signage
⚠️ What to Expect:
• No full road closures, but lane shifts and traffic congestion are likely, especially during peak hours.
• Traffic control measures will be in place and will shift as work progresses.
• All work is weather dependent.
As always, we urge drivers to stay alert and use extra caution in work zones. Remember: this may be a temporary inconvenience for you, but it's a workplace for someone else. Let’s help keep everyone safe.
Plan ahead, stay patient, and drive safe, Arlington!

🚨 2024 State of TN Fire Marshal's Fire Prevention Poster Contest 🚨
Fire Prevention Week took place October 6th–12th, 2024. Every year, fire departments across the country observe this important week to commemorate the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. As part of this observance, the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office hosts an annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest to promote fire safety awareness.
This year’s theme, selected by the National Fire Protection Association, was “Smoke Alarms – Make Them WORK for You.”
🖍️ Schools from across Tennessee submitted their students' artwork, and we are proud to share that Arlington had 4 winners - three 1st place and 1 Commissioner's Choice award!
🏆 Congratulations to our local winners:
- One student from Donelson Elementary School - Hannah Drace (art teacher: Natalie Morgan)
- Three students from Arlington High School - Thomas Ochoa, Ella Hawkins, and Maguire Jones (art teacher: Melanie Anderson)
These talented students were recognized at a special luncheon in Nashville by the TN Fire Commission and will also be honored at the May Arlington Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting.
The Arlington Fire Department extends heartfelt congratulations to all the State winners, with a special shoutout to our hometown students and their incredible teachers for their creativity, dedication, and commitment to fire safety education.

🚫 Hazardous Waste Alert – Please Read! 🚫 Today, one of our garbage trucks had to stop mid-route after someone put wet paint in their trash bin. Thankfully, our staff caught it before it could leak onto roads or splash on an employee.
But not everyone was so lucky — some residents will miss trash pickup today while our team works to clean and contain the issue (map included - yellow areas to be collected tomorrow).
‼️ A reminder to ALL residents: Wet paint, harsh cleaners, auto fluids, pool chemicals, and other hazardous household materials DO NOT belong in your trash or recycling bins.
These materials:
- Endanger our staff
- Can damage trucks and equipment
- Put our roads and public spaces at risk
- Can disrupt collection services for your neighbors

🎉 Mayor for a Day: A Special Honor for Hagen Gaia! 🎉
The Town of Arlington is proud to announce our Mayor for a Day – Hagen Gaia, a talented 4th grade student from Arlington Elementary School!
Mayor Mike Wissman had the honor of meeting Hagen at school to congratulate him on this special achievement. During the visit, Hagen received a key to the Town and some delicious Town cookies – a sweet welcome to his big day!
Later that evening, Hagen got to sit front and center at the April BMA meeting with the entire Board, experiencing the Town's leadership in action. Surely a memorable day for both Hagen and the Board. We love seeing the next generation of leaders get involved and take pride in their Town.

** Post-Storm Update: What Our Crews Are Doing**
🚧 After the recent heavy storms, Town crews have been hard at work. Today, they focused on patching the many potholes created by the storms to keep our streets safe. However, there are likely still some potholes around Town that need attention, so please drive with caution and stay alert while on the roads.
💦 Crews also cleared public drainage ditches and pipes around town to ensure proper water flow. While working, they noticed several private driveway culverts also blocked by debris.
**Important Reminder** This is a friendly reminder to check and clean out your drainage ditches regularly, and especially after heavy rains. Also, never push lawn clippings, extra leaves, and other green waste into drainage ditches. Keeping them clear helps prevent flooding by allowing rainwater to drain freely across your property.
Let's all do our part to keep drainage systems clear and reduce the risk of future flooding!

🚨 Flooding Alert & Road Closures 🚨 Rising water levels have crossed several roads through Town. If you must be out, please drive cautiously.
🚧 Chester Street - a large tree fell and is blocking the road between Griffin and Milton Wilson. The road is closed until Town crews can remove it.
🚧 Hayes Road - water has topped the road between Airline and Cranston. Avoid driving through these floodwaters.
🚧 Several other roads throughout town have water across them, including Hwy 70 by old Kroger, Memphis-Arlington by Commander, and Memphis-Arlington by Gerber.
Town crew continue to are monitor conditions throughout Town. Call our Public Works After-Hours emergency number if you see dangerous situations, such as flooded roads or downed trees (901-568-4259).
⚠️ Avoid flooded areas for your safety.
⚠️ Do not walk, bike, or drive through floodwaters
⚠️ Stay alert to changing conditions and avoid going out into weather if possible.
