Library Calendar of Events

We have special programs and events each month at the Library. Our monthly calendars help keep you informed (links in blue buttons to download). Check our new calendar each month OR check out our Library Facebook Page.

Programs occur Monday-Thursday, and on Saturdays. The Library is closed on Fridays & Sundays.

"Color Our World" 2025 Summer Reading Program

Logging ends on July 12th!

It’s that time again! Our 2025 Summer Reading Program theme is “Color Our World!” Help us celebrate the myriad of ways in which art enriches our lives. Our program is designed to inspire and engage readers of all ages. Visit us throughout the summer for the exciting programs we have planned. FOAM PARTIES, TIE DYE PARTIES, & MORE!

2025 Summer Comic Strip Contest! July 12th - August 2nd!

Enter your comic strip for a chance to win. For all ages! All entries will be displayed to the public for Reader's Choice Voting. Contest sponsors will judge all entries and select winners from each age group. Stop by the library to pick up an entry form or download it here!

The comic strip contest is from july 12th to august 2nd. Entries are due on July 10th.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

For ages 0-5

It's never too early to start reading! Register your baby or toddler for the 1,000 Books Challenge on ReadSquared. This program is designed to help children read 1,000 books before they enter Kindergarten and encourage life-long reading habits. Once you've earned enough points, you'll receive a completion certificate you can print and share!

Wrap up summer reading with us at Douglas Park! Bring your swimsuit to play in the bubbles and celebrate the beginning of our Summer Reading Program!

Make sure to wear clothes you don't mind getting wet or dirty. Icy treats will be provided by Parker's Water Ice!

Art to Grow with the Dixon Art Gallery!

Thursday, June 3rd at 11:00

Visitors from the Dixon Art Gallery will join us on June 5th at 11:00 for a colorful art program for ages 5-12.

Shelby Forest Park Ranger Visit!

Thursday, July 17th at 11:00 (at the Market Pavilion)

The library will have a special visit from a Shelby Forest Park Ranger! Come learn about the world around you and maybe meet an animal friend! For kids of all ages.

Learn to Draw with Illustrator Rich Davis!

Children's Programs

Preschool Storytime!

10:30 am on Tuesdays.

LA HORA DE CUENTOS

Every Tuesday we enjoy stories, songs, counting, dancing, and a great way for parent interaction with your little one.

The program is designed to build early language & literacy foundations in toddlers and pre-school children ages 5 and under.

We also sneak in lots of early literacy and social skill building. See more for English here. and Spanish here.

Summer story times are on Tuesdays at 10:30.

Books & Barks

Saturday, July 26th at 10:30 to 12:00 (registration is required)

Do you have a reluctant reader? Reading aloud to a therapy dog can boost confidence and they're the best audience! Sign up for one-on-one reading time with a library pup.

Registration is required.

For ages 5 and under.

Books and Barks is every fourth Saturday. Sign up at the library.

Color Your World: coloring program for all ages

Wednesdays at 3:30

Help us celebrate summer reading program! Pick a page from your favorite coloring book or help us color our summer reading banner. We will provide coloring books and materials that will appeal to all family members.

No registration is required.

Literacy Pop!

Builder's Club

Every Thursday at 4:00

Come build with us! Test your LEGO skills and build with friends. Every Thursday before STEM, we will play building games, do challenges, or free build!

S.T.E.M. Thursdays

STEM 4:30 pm - on Thursdays

Your local library is the place that offers exploration and discovery: S.T.E.M.

We encourage sharing all reviews and suggestions for other members of the group. Great way to reconnect, meet people, make new friends, and add great book ideas to your reading list.
