Fines & Fees

The Library strives to provide maximum access to all library materials. Patrons are expected to return borrowed materials on time and to treat them with care.

To help ensure that library materials are available for all, the Library assesses a fine to the record of any borrower for overdue, damaged, and lost materials. Accumulated fines will result in the suspension of borrowing privileges.

Loan Periods

  • Books...............................21 days (1 renewal)

  • New Releases...............21 days (no renewals)

  • DVD's................................21 days (no renewals)

  • DVD New Releases.... 21 days (no renewals)

Fines (per day) for Overdue Materials

Fines will continue to accumulate daily on all overdue items until the item is renewed, returned, reaches the maximum fine, or is declared lost. If an overdue item is successfully renewed, borrowers are responsible for the payment of fines that accumulated while the item was overdue.

  • Juvenile print & audio materials  --- $0.10

  • Adult print & audio materials  --- $0.20

  • DVD's  ---  $1.00

MAXIMUM FINE: The maximum fine for items returned in good condition after the due date is: $10.00 per item.

A patron may carry a fine balance up to $25.00 before being blocked from checking out materials. Blocked patrons must clear their balance before having checkout privileges restored.

Lost or Damaged Books

  • Cost of the Book, plus a $5.00 processing fee.

  • The Library will accept replacement of the actual item with a new copy. Once payment is received, the item becomes property of the patron.

  • If a lost item is found after payment of replacement charges have been made, the Library cannot provide refunds or accept the return of the item.

Additional Fees

  • Black and white printing ---  $0.25/page

  • Colored printing ---  $1.00/page

  • Black and white copies --- $0.25/page

  • Colored copies --- $1.00/page

  • Faxing ---  $1.00/page

  • Replacement library card  ---  $1.00

Payment Methods

Fines and fees can be paid in person at the Library by cash or personal check. Checks must be made out to: Sam T. Wilson Public Library.

** To facilitate processing, include your library card number in the note/memo field of any check mailed.

Fines may be waived in special circumstances. Supervisor approval is required to waive amounts greater than $5.00.

Parents/guardians who authorize the application for a child’s library card will be responsible for paying any fine incurred by the child. The authorizing parent/guardian and siblings residing in the same household may be blocked as a user until payment is made.
