Please ensure cans of WET PAINT are NOT being put in your garbage cans. WastePro staff only find the paint once it's smashed inside the truck, which sometimes ends up on them too. If you have leftover paint, leave the cans open to dry - then you can throw it away safely in your bin. If you have too much, wet paint can be taken to the Household Hazardous Waste facility at 6305 Haley Rd (no latex paint accepted). The Facility also accepts other materials that are unsafe to throw in your bins. Check their website for more information, hours, and details: https://www.shelbycountytn.gov/439/Household-Hazardous-Waste You can also contact Public Works or check the Town website for more information or questions on trash & recycle issues: https://www.townofarlington.org/page/solid-waste-recycle-collections

Don't let garbage odors trash your summer. A few simple steps in the summer heat can help stop odors in your trash bins and in our Town. ☀️ Bag your garbage securely and keep your bins closed. This reduces the opportunities for pests to gain access and odors to escape. (just remember to not bag recyclables) ☀️ Rinse food from cans and bottles before tossing in the recycle bin - a quick step that can save you during summer heat. ☀️ Don't throw liquids in your trash - not only will things like old milk begin to smell and attract pests, they're also more likely to be spilled on our streets when handled by garbage trucks - and nobody wants that. ☀️ Clean your trash bins out when they need it. Even in the best circumstances, trash bins get dirty. A quick wash with a water hose and soap can cut down on odors from the can. ☀️ Don't store bins inside a garage - as enclosed spaces will concentrate the smell even more. ☀️ Try to store outside bins in a shady spot, out of direct sunlight - this will keep the temperatures from spiking inside the can and accelerating decomp and odors.

ROAD CONSTRUCTION - It's street improvement season! Most recently, work began on Commander Dr. and Larry Anderson. The process may look a little strange - as it includes a loose rock placed on the road, which is then covered with a seal coat after about a week of compaction. So don't worry - what you see initially is not a finished product. This process will ultimately seal any moderate cracks, provide skid resistance, seal the pavement against moisture intrusion, and restore a uniform black appearance to our roads. In the meantime, drive safely in construction areas & obey any posted detour signs while we improve our Town.

REMINDER: The AFD is conducting annual Fire Hydrant inspections and flushing. It will continue through June 21st. Most hydrants will be flushed between the hours of 9 AM and 4 PM. Items to note during hydrant flushing: - You may notice a decrease in water pressure while hydrants are flushed nearby. - Water is safe to use during this period; however, water discoloration may occur. - Discoloration can be alleviated by running your cold water for several minutes. * We advise you to refrain from washing laundry while discoloration is present. If you experience a continued reduction in flow, we recommend you clean the screen at the tip of your faucet as mineral deposits may have accumulated during the flushing period.
