WATER MAIN BREAK - There has been a water main break on Memphis Arlington Rd at Stryker. A MLGW repair crew is en route to repair.
As a result, expect low water pressure on the east side of Town. Also, expect possible detour around the area, due to road damage.
The Arlington Fire Dept. took damage to several vehicles while responding to an accident on I-40 this morning, but wants to reassure the public no AFD personnel were injured and the AFD is still ready and capable to serve.
Fire Chief James Harvill provided the following account of the incident: “This morning, 9-6-24 at approximately 2:30 AM, a semi tractor trailer crashed through an accident scene on westbound I-40 near mile marker 24 in Arlington, TN. The semi-truck struck Arlington Brush Truck 72, pushing it then flipping it onto Arlington Engine 72. The semi then jack knifed and came to rest against Shelby County Fire Ambulance 71."
The semi narrowly missed all personnel on the scene, to include TN Highway Patrol and Shelby County Sheriff agency vehicles. No Fire personnel were injured during the accident. The semi driver was extricated by crews on-site and transported to a local hospital.
Chief Harvill noted "We are unsure why the semi driver failed to yield to emergency vehicles on the scene but are thankful for no additional injuries. "
In response to the damaged vehicles, Chief Harvill says "Arlington will not have Brush Truck response capabilities until the truck is replaced. However, immediately following the accident, Engine 72 crews switched into our Reserve Snorkel and are fully mission capable. Arlington has one remaining reserve apparatus in the fleet.”
The Town of Arlington welcomed new and returning Board members this week! On September 3rd, TN Senator Paul Rose joined us to swear in Mayor Mike Wissman, Larry Harmon, Jeff McKee, and Dwight Barker to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
Our newest Alderman, Dwight Barker, has been an Arlington resident since 2013. He's been a busy member of the Town during that time, having served on the Town's Planning Commission for 6 years and the Industrial Development Board for 4 years.
Returning BMA members include Alderman Larry Harmon who is starting his 3rd term, and Alderman Jeff McKee and Mayor Mike Wissman who are each starting their 4th terms.
So join us in thanking these public servants if you see them around Town. And as always, you're welcome to attend monthly Board meetings. The next regularly scheduled BMA meeting is October 7th at 6:30pm in the Town Hall Board Chambers.
The Planning Commission will not meet in the month of September due to having no projects to review.
Water problems at Forrest St Park are currently impacting the Crossing Amphitheater, Market & Community Garden. This WILL impact the Market this Saturday (9/07), so porta-potties will be provided during the event.

But vandalism in our parks is becoming an almost daily, costly occurrence.
Forrest Street Park has had landscaping pulled up, tire marks in the parking and under the Market pavilion, and even a storm drain cover removed and dropped down the hole, which is dangerous.
You can help - if you have information or see anything suspicious, report it to the Sheriff's Office non-emergency number (901-379-7625).
In addition, since all Town parks close at sunset, the Sheriff's Office will be increasing their patrols and installing a Sky Cop to keep an eye on after-hours activities. Vandals will be prosecuted.

Town facilities are CLOSED today in observation of the Labor Day holiday, including the Library and Senior Center. ☝️ Reminder - it's also a trash service holiday, so pick up will be shifted forward one day.
Due to the passing of our Schools Superintendent and the scheduled Celebration of Life on September 3rd, our Board meeting for Tuesday, September 3rd has been cancelled. The Board will meet next on October 7th at the regularly scheduled time.
REMINDER - Chester Street Bridges - the bridge north of Pinckley Rd will re-open today and the bridge south of Pinckley Rd will close today for repairs.
As a result, residents in Rolling Hills Farms will now be directed north toward Milton Wilson. Anyone south of Rolling Hills Farms will continue to be detoured to Airline Road.
Construction Updates - The Chester Street bridge replacement north of Pinkley is wrapping up and the bridge is scheduled to re-open next Wednesday (8/28)! So travel north to Milton Wilson will return.
Once the northbound bridge opens, work will begin to improve a bridge just south of Pinckley. So be prepared for a shift in traffic patterns during work on the new bridge.

Exciting News! We're happy to announce Arlington was awarded a Local Parks & Recreation Fund (LPRF) Grant for our Forrest Street Park project.
The Town applied for the LPRF grant earlier this year. The project allows us update Forrest Street Park by installing sports field lights for all seven of the fields there. This allows expanded use of this very popular park by Town residents by offering night games and practices.
The need for sports field lighting came up early and often during development of the Town's Parks & Recreation Master Plan, showing a strong demand for lighting. So we're excited to be able to move forward with this project and expect to break ground in Spring 2025!
Music on the Square is this Saturday! Music from Hair Spray Nation starts at 7pm. Food will be available for purchase. The performance is FREE and open to the public. Hope to see you there!

Weather permitting, the many paving projects around Town should be complete tomorrow. This includes: Mary Alice, Forrest Grove, Snyder Plantation, Forrest St, and Milton Wilson.
You may see crews finishing final touch ups items, but that work should not cause disruptions like the full road paving project. Thank you for your patience and support during this process.
Summer Reading pays dividends! Thanks to local sponsors, our summer reading participants were treated with free soccer tickets last month. Kids & their families enjoyed the game, and our Arlington Library even got a shout out on the scoreboard!
ROAD CONSTRUCTION - Paving work is still ongoing around Town. Please DO NOT park on these streets during the paving process; it only slows progress. Each area will have a 3-stage process of patching, milling, then a final pave.
Here's a snapshot of where work is ongoing or planned (updated):
- FORREST GROVE Subdivision - workers are currently finishing the final pave now, and should be complete by Monday.
- MARY ALICE Subdivision - work started to patch/mill/pave this subdivision yesterday.
- FORREST ST (between Chester & Milton Wilson) - patching and milling will start TODAY. Final Paving will start after Mary Alice is completed.

STREET SWEEPING - it's time to clean again! Town-wide street sweeping will start next Monday, August 5th (weather permitting). It usually takes around 5-7 days. As always, major intersections and Town parking lots will be swept at night to avoid traffic and park event interruptions. Please DO NOT PARK on the street during this time unless you know it has already been swept.
