The Town of Arlington would like to wish everyone a Safe and Happy Halloween!

Bringing different generations together is a beautiful thing! Have you heard Arlington Senior Center has partnered with our school district in the Paws Reading Program? Twice a week, volunteers from the Senior Center visit Donelson & Arlington Elementary Schools to work with small groups of K - 2nd graders in reading and literacy.
From what we hear, the seniors are benefiting as much as the students! One more reason to be proud of our Arlington community!

Are you on an HOA Board for your neighborhood? If so, make sure your neighborhood's info is up-to-date with the Town by filling out the HOA Contact Registry form. Our goal is to establish a relationship where we can better exchange information that directly affects residents in your neighborhood.
The form is available on the Town website or through the Town app.

The Town of Arlington would like to remind dog owners they are not allowed to let their dogs run loose in Town parks and public spaces.
We love dogs too, but there are some good reasons for dogs to be on a leash:
1. It's the law. - The Town ordinance dictates a dog must not be allowed to run free on public land. This is intended to protect the dog, the owner, and the general public.
2. Dogs under control are less likely to get into something harmful. - An off-leash dog can encounter many dangers, from vehicles, broken glass, rancid food or dead animals, dangerous wildlife and more. And vet visits are expensive, even if injuries are treatable.
3. While your dog may be friendly, not every dog you meet will be. - Keeping your dog on a leash prevents unwelcome encounters with unfriendly dogs and other animals.
4. Not everyone you meet is physically able to withstand a dog jumping on them or running into them. - Your dog may be overly friendly, but the elderly walker, child, or pregnant woman walking in the park may not be able to handle their friendly "hi" if they jump or bump into them.
5. People have the right to use public parks and trails without being confronted by loose dogs. - Not everyone is a "dog person" and some may have a fear of dogs. Residents should be able to use our public spaces or go for a jog with an expectation there will be no loose dogs.
It's in everyone's best interest to obey leash laws and keep themselves, their dogs, and the public safe and free from bad experiences that can happen when a dog is loose.

Halloween is almost here! October 31st falls on Tuesday this year. The Town does NOT designate a specific date or time for trick-or-treating.
Some neighborhoods may choose to schedule Halloween activities on different dates, so residents can verify with their neighborhood associations. Otherwise, a simple way to communicate treats are being passed out at your home is by turning your front porch lights on (or turn them off if you are not participating).
Whenever you head out, always prioritize SAFETY while trick-or-treating:
- Use flashlights, glow sticks, or reflective tape to increase visibility.
- Always go out with a group or an adult, never alone.
- Stay on sidewalks whenever possible, and look both ways before crossing streets.
- Stick to well-lit areas, don't dart between parked cars, and use crosswalks.
- Visit only homes with porch lights on.
- Drivers should be extra cautious and drive slowly through residential areas.
- Be cautious around lit candles in Halloween decorations.
*As an alternative to traditional trick-or-treating, a TRUNK OR TREAT event is planned at the Shelby County Sheriff Substation on Saturday, Oct. 28th from 5-7pm. It is open to the public, candy & treats will be given to attendees, and members of the SCSO and Arlington Fire will be participating.

Bring your chairs or quilt to the Crossing Amphitheater TONIGHT to enjoy music from Basketcase starting at 7pm. This final Music On The Square is sponsored by Patton Plumbing Heating & A/C and Spreading Sunshine.

In case you haven't heard, Forrest Steet is OPEN again!
Improvements may take time to get used to, so keep an eye out for new crosswalks & stop signs when traveling through the area.

We know Halloween & Thanksgiving haven't happened yet, but Town staff are already thinking about Christmas! The Town is looking for volunteers for Christmas on the Square. We still need volunteers on the day of the event, a sponsor for the Toy Tent, more food trucks, and market vendors with homemade crafts.
The event is scheduled for December 1st. If you or somebody you know would like to participate, please reach out to the Parks Department 901.867.9555.

Don't Miss Out!! Saturday, Oct 21st, is your last chance this year for both Music On The Square and the Arlington Crossing Market!
