Special Visitors at Fire Station #2! We had such a great time today welcoming a large group from Shepherd's Haven, a local nonprofit serving special needs adults in our community.
They toured the station, got a peek at how our firefighters live and work, learned how calls come in, and checked out the equipment that helps us respond.
A big thank you to our guests for the thoughtful gifts — hand-painted, bright red ceramic magnets. How did they know a firefighter’s favorite color?

🍳 Your Kitchen Grease Doesn’t Belong in the Sewer!
We love bacon. We love fried chicken.
We don’t love what their grease does to our pipes.
When fats, oils, and grease (FOG) go down the drain, they cool off and harden, clinging to pipes like that stubborn last pancake on a griddle. The result? Big clogs, big mess, and big bills — plus sewer water in our streams (or homes).
Instead of sharing gross pipe pics, meet our new archenemy: FOG - a villain who lurks in drains waiting to cause trouble.
Here’s the easy fix to keep FOG out of our pipes:
- Wipe pans with a paper towel before washing
- Pour cooled grease into a container and toss it in the trash
- Never pour oil or grease down the sink or toilet
Together, we can keep Arlington’s pipes clear, streams clean, and FOG out of our town.

🚧It’s Happening – Road Work Ahead on Milton Wilson🚧 The Arlington Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BMA) approved a $1.1 million project to repave Milton Wilson Blvd. from Hazel Ridge to Chester Street at their August meeting.
- Work begins next Monday, August 18 and is expected to take 3–4 weeks.
- One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction, but traffic patterns may change.
- Please watch for workers, obey posted signs, and drive with extra caution in the area
This project will mean a smoother, safer drive for everyone — thank you for your patience as we make it happen!

#ArlingtonCrossingMarket www.townofarlington.org/page/the-market

Just a heads up—some of you will have an extra challenge tomorrow (Friday): Forrest Street will be closed starting at 8 AM for a one-day tree removal project. Things should be back to normal by Monday. Thanks for your patience as we work to keep our streets safe!

Arlington Crossing Market - back this Saturday from 8 AM to Noon at the Market Pavilion! Hope to see you there!
Curious about who’s coming? The full vendor list is below 👇 or online at: www.townofarlington.org/page/the-market

The closure is expected to last one day, weather permitting. We know the timing isn’t ideal—with school starting back and all—but the work is necessary for everyone's safety.
Detour signage will be in place to guide drivers around the closure:
- Truck traffic will be rerouted to Hwy 70
- All other vehicles will detour via Dusty Field Road
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this short-term disruption. It won’t last long—thanks for hanging in there with us, Arlington.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Back to School Bash at the Park this past Saturday! It was a great turnout, perfect weather, and lots of fun — from fishing and games, to crafts and hanging with the Arlington Fire Dept. and SCSO.
Big shoutout to SY Wilson for the free prizes, Scouting America Troops 452 & 83, our awesome Library and Senior Center volunteers, and all our vendors: Parkers Water Ice, Arlington Masonic Lodge, Rockin’ Rodney, and Twisted Mr. Rogers.
And of course, HUGE thanks to Arlington Parks & Rec, AFD, and SCSO volunteers — we couldn’t have done it without you!

🚫 Don’t drain pool water into the street or storm drains! That water flows untreated into our rivers and streams, which can harm fish and other wildlife.
✅ Do drain into the sanitary sewer system, where the water gets properly treated and safely reused.
Let’s all do our part to protect our local waterways.

Bring the kids out for games, music, fishing, and fun before the school year kicks off. We’ll see you there!

Please join us in congratulating and thanking Arlington Fire Dept. Battalion Chief William “Bill” Geyer, who returned home this past weekend after a 21-day deployment in Texas assisting with flood recovery efforts.
Chief Geyer served as a member of the FEMA Blue Incident Support Team (IST) — a specialized group that plays a critical role in disaster response. The Blue IST provides logistical, communication, and transportation support to Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Task Forces, helping ensure that teams on the ground have the resources they need to carry out their missions.
We’re proud of Chief Geyer's dedication to service—not only here at home in Arlington but across the country when duty calls. Thank you, Chief, for representing Arlington with honor and for your unwavering commitment to public safety.

Yesterday, the Shelby County Commission recognized Mayor Wissman for his courageous actions during the tragic Walmart shooting in Bartlett on June 19, 2025.
While off duty and simply running errands, Mayor Wissman jumped into action—helping guide others to safety and rendering aid to the shooting victim until first responders from Bartlett PD and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene.
His calm, decisive response in a chaotic moment is a true testament to his character and years of service with the Memphis Fire Department. Though he serves as mayor of Arlington, his actions that day show the kind of leader—and person—he is. We’re incredibly proud to call him ours..
Thank you, Mayor Wissman, for your selfless actions and steady leadership. Your bravery did not go unnoticed.

Staff has already contacted our maintenance team to get it checked out and repaired ASAP.
We know it was a rude wake-up call, and we’re sorry for the early morning confusion! Thanks for your patience while we get it silenced (for now) and sorted out.

If you live on the south side of Arlington, your trash may not be picked up today due to a WastePro truck breaking down mid-route (see attached map).
WastePro plans to bring in another truck tomorrow (Tuesday) to complete the Monday route.
We appreciate your patience. Please leave your bins at the curb until collected.
Thank you for your understanding!
